Bringing Modern Science Research into the K–12 Classroom
Here at BiteScis, our goal is to bring modern science research into the K–12 classroom. We create and share awesome and easy-to-use science lesson plans that are developed in partnerships between K–12 educators and early career STEM researchers. The science is spot-on, cutting-edge, and fun while the lesson plans are classroom-tested and tied to curriculum standards, making them easy for teachers to directly implement. BiteScis provides a critical resource for today's classroom while also fostering meaningful connections between practicing researchers and science teachers.
BiteScis was conceived by a group of scientists, teachers, and communicators who met at a communicating science conference, ComSciCon. After a number of workshops developing the BiteScis platform, we are now running regular workshops connecting early-career researchers and teachers to develop BiteScis lesson plans. All of these lesson plans are tied to curriculum standards, classroom-tested, and freely available on our new website: bitescis.org
The BiteScis platform is working brilliantly, providing awesome lesson plans that are reaching children in classrooms across the US. However, our enterprise is *small* - only a handful of lesson plans are completed and posted with about 6 more near completion. We need your help to support future workshops to expand the BiteScis program beyond "How do scientists use fireflies to help fight cancer?" and "Can a computer predict how species evolve?" to a comprehensive trove of resources for today's classrooms. Your donation directly supports the teachers and early-career researchers working on BiteScis lesson plans.
